This is the F. F. E. Journal, an annual undertaking previously edited by Paolo Vollmeier. New Editor Knud Mohr, former FIP President, has done a magnificent job with this, his first volume. Among the many articles on philatelic fakes and forgeries are two that will interest aerophilatelists. The first is “The ZP3 Forged Overprint” by Dieter Leder A.I.E.P. The other is “Il Grande Raid Aereo Franco-Italiano: Bologna-Venice-Rimini-Bologna: 17-19 September 1911” by Dr. Fiorenzo Longhi A.I.E.P.

An interesting innovation in this book is that although all articles are in English, many are also in the language of the author.

Leder’s study is of a Brazilian ZP3 Zeppelin stamp on a cover flown on the round trip 1930 Pan-America flight of the LZ 127 “Graf Zeppelin.” The stamp in question has a double overprint of the two upper bars. Leder painstakingly shows that the double overprint could not possibly be real and, in fact, the entire overprint is a forgery.

Dr. Longhi’s study is of the forged postal markings on covers and cards supposedly flown during the first Italian air circuit in 1911. There are presently only six pieces of mail known flown by Achille Dal Mistro from Bologna to Venice on September 19th. Numerous other forged pieces are known. All collectors of Pioneer Airmail should read this article.

The non-airmail articles are equally as stimulating and very well presented.
