International Award of Aerophilately Fernando Corsari presented by Italphil S.r.1. (Italy Philatelic Federation) to a person who has promoted and developed interest, study and knowledge of aerophilately and aero-postal history.
2004 winner (first year): Fiorenzo Longhi Through his rigorously researched publications, noted expert and keen collector Fiorenzo Longhi has made a substantial contribution in deepening and widening the study of many subjects including the French Air Force in World War I, the Franco-Italian air raid of Bologna in 1911, the trans-Atlantic crossing of the Santa Maria, the first postal flight across the Andes and the Italian Air Force in the Libya campaign. His detailed and exhaustive writings, set in the relative historical context, are notable for their informative and accessible style which encourages the study of airmails and postal history.
Aerophilatelic Hall of Fame American Air Mail Society. To honor men and women who have contributed to the accumulation of aerophilatelic knowledge, have worked for a significant number of years to increase interest in the field, and have served successfully for a significant period in aerophilatelic organizations at the national or international level. The names of those honored are inscribed on the Aerophilatelic Hall of Fame plaque at the headquarters of the American Philatelic Society in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.
2004 winners: John N. Duggan (UK) John Duggan is one of the most significant researchers and writers on Zeppelin aerophilately in the history of the hobby. His decades of dedicated research and work in the corporate archives of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin / Deutsche Zeppelin Reederei brought forth from them records of the greatest significance to Zeppelin airmail collectors. He has written numerous books, most prominently Commercial Zeppelin Flights to South America (1995), LZ129 Hindenburg-The Complete Story (2002) and numerous monographs on various flights and airmail of the Graf Zeppelin, Hindenburg, Graf Zeppelin II and other airships. John founded the Zeppelin Study Group in the UK and served as writer/editor of Zeppelin for 17 years. He is an international gold medal exhibitor. He shares his deep knowledge and passion for aerophilately without reserve.
Allan Donald Jones (USA) Don Jones is a well known and deeply respected aerophilatelist with a passion for the U.S. Pioneer and Governmental Flights of 1910-1924. He has done a great deal of original research into the details of the early U.S. airmail flights and wrote Aerial Mail Service, a monograph about the first U.S. airmails in 1918. He has traveled extensively over the early airmail routes to gather details from local contemporary records in his research for the complete story and two additional books are forthcoming. Governmental and Pioneer flights and is an FIP and APS accredited judge. He served as president of the American Air Mail Society in 2000-2001. Don is an open book with his knowledge, always ready to help others and share his insights.
