The round trip of the airship LZ Graf Zeppelin from Friedrichshafen via, among others, Helsinki in Finland and Stockholm in Sweden was made on 24 September 1930. At Stockholm, one post bag was thrown down, from 50 meters, with a miniature parachute over Gärdet in Stockholm. The time was then 10.30 pm. Before the postal service personnel had been able to find the mailbag some of the spectators had taken the parachute and its ropes as souvenirs. Probably even the tag of the mailbag had been taken by spectators. The mailbag was transported to the Central Post Office in Stockholm, where the mail was stamped with an arrival handstamp. The mailbag contained 13 kg mail whereof 4 kg was destined to Swedish addresses and 9 kg was sent further following day to foreign addresses.
The shown object is the tag of the mailbag which was thrown out over Stockholm. The tag is stamped both in Friedrichshafen and with the green triangular special stamp. In Friedrichshafen the Postmaster has written on the tag that the mailbag is destined for Stockholm. The mailbag tag is stamped on the reverse ”Friedrichshafen 23 September 1930” and bears a German airmail label.
