AAMS Appoints Youngblood Editor
Pres. Derrick Pillage announces that Wayne Youngblood will be taking up the editorship of the monthly Airpost Journal, flagship publication of the American Air Mail Society (AAMS), with the December issue. Youngblood is well-known as a philatelic author and editor, having been a full time staffer at Linn’s Stamp News, editor of Scott Stamp Monthly and editor/publisher of Stamp Collector.
He replaces Jim Graue, who has resigned after capably editing the Journal for 17 years in which high quality issues arrived regularly in member’s mail boxes. The quality of the magazine is attested by the many literature awards it received at both at the national and international level.
Graue and Vicki Canfield Peters, who did prepress and advertising for the APJ, resigned their APJ positions after the AAMS Board, at its recent meeting, provided additional editorial guidance responding to editorial judgements that the Board found to be problematic. The November issue will be his final number.
Graue has also left the AAMS Vice Presidency, and Phil Stager will replace him for the remainder of the term. John Hotchner has been appointed to the AAMS Board as a director to replace Stager. The regularly scheduled AAMS election will take place in 2007 for the 2008-2009 term.
Those interested in collecting air mail stamps and covers are encouraged to visit the AAMS Website at www.americanairmailsociety.org, and to join the nearly 1400 members of AAMS by contacting Steve Reinhard, PO Box 110, Mineola, NY 11501, for an application form.
