Notes
This postcard was written in flight by Z II mechanic Laburda and air dropped over Stuttgart on August 5, 1908 at 6:25 AM, where the finder wrote a note on reverse and mailed it to Konstanz.
Engine problems caused Z II Echterdingen emergency landing at 7:51 AM on August 5, 1908. During engine repairs in the afternoon, the airship was torn from its moorings by a strong gust. A crew member brought the airship down, but it struck a pear tree, damaging its gasbags and causing a fire, likely ignited by static electricity from the torn rubberised fabric and Z II burned down in front of 40,000 spectators.
