Crash Mail

4. Miracle on the Hudson

On January 15, 2009 US Airways Flight 1549, an Airbus 320, was hit by geese which disabled both engines. The pilot had no choice but to land on the Hudson River. All passengers and crew were rescued by nearby ferry boats and Coast Guard.

It is thought that US Airways was carrying mail at that time but there have been no reports of recovered mail from that flight being in collectors’ hands.

The story was told by the movie “Sully” starring Tom Hanks. The reconstructed body of the plane is kept at the Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte, N.C.
