Notes
Airship Commander: Eckener. German postal rates: 2 RM for cards and 4 RM for letters.
The trip across the Atlantic Ocean was harrowing due to severe storms, which damaged the port stabilizer. Despite a fierce slipstream, a volunteer repair crew that included Dr. Eckener's son Knut climbed inside the exposed fin to effect temporary repairs. After arrival at Lakehurst, several crew members were feted at a ticker tape parade in New York City. Later, Dr. Eckener attended a breakfast meeting with President Calvin Coolidge at the White House in Washington, D.C.
The oval flight cachet is most frequently seen in blue, but can also be found in violet, green, and red.
