Notes
The airship made it as far as Barcelona before having to turn back due to multiple engine failures. In all, four of the ship's five engines failed. As the Graf Zeppelin flew back up the Rhone River valley, it struggled against strong winds, narrowly avoiding a crash. After making an emergency landing at Cuers, France, near Toulon, the ship was housed at a French military base for repairs.
Upon its eventual return to Friedrichshafen, the mail was offloaded and marked with a red single line handstamp reading: "Shipment delayed due to breakdown of first North America Flight." The delayed mail was subsequently flown to Lakehurst during the airship's Resumed North American Flight in August of 1929.
