Notes
This is an example of "Friedrichshafen Bordpost" that was postmarked at the Luftpost Desk of the Friedrichshafen Post Office prior to the Orient Flight. Senders wishing to have their mail cancelled with a bordpost marking could request that when they sent their mail for the flight to the Friedrichshafen Post Office. Otherwise, a Friedrichshafen Luftpost cancellation would ordinarily be applied.
Because the Friedrichshafen Bordpost markings were often identical in appearance to those applied in the airship's on-board post office, the only reliable way to distinguish on-board mail is to identify the sender (passenger or crew) or look for a postcard message describing the flight itself.
