Beginning in 1930, Swiss mail intended to be flown on the Graf Zeppelin was generally sent to Romanshorn, Switzerland, across the Bodensee from Friedrichshafen, where its Swiss postage was cancelled. It was then transported across the lake to Friedrichshafen by ferry boat. It typically received a transit postmark at the Friedrichshafen post office before being loaded aboard the airship.
