The sender crossed off the text for printed matter on this business mail envelope. This type of postmark was only used on the first South America flight and then a different postmark design was used on the next six South America flights. Hugo Eckener and Ernst Lehmann commanded the 100 hours, 40 minutes flight with 54 crew members, 37 passengers, and 61 kg of mail plus mail posted aboard. Mail bags were dropped over Recife, but this example flew the complete flight.
