Notes
Hindenburg's first flight to North America took 61 hours, 40 minutes and was much faster than ocean ship crossings. Hugo Eckener and Ernst Lehmann were commanders with 56 crew members and 50 passengers. There was just over 1,000 kg of mail plus passenger and crew onboard posts. German mail was postmarked in Berlin, Frankfurt, Lorch, Stuttgart, and Friedrichshafen with a red cachet with varieties a-g. This registered example has the Stuttgart postmark with cachet f. Commander Dr. Hugo Eckener signed this cover. The unusual Philippines destination offered an opportunity for the airmail combination of zeppelin and clipper flights. This adds to the value of the cover.
