The sender put this envelope under cover to the Frankfurt railway post office 19 with a request for an onboard cancel. The postmark was applied in advance of the flight, placed in a sealed mailbag, and flown. This was done to reduce the workload of the onboard postmaster during the flight. Stamp dealer and printer Albert Roessler printed the private cachet depicting Hindenburg.
