Notes
When the Germany Flight of May 1 was cancelled, the mail, in sealed mailbags, was put aboard Hindenburg for its next flight to the United States. Although on an international flight, the domestic onboard cancel had already been applied to mail at the Frankfurt railway post office 19. In addition to the red May Day cachet, a red boxed cachet explained the delay and rerouting. Enroute, crew dropped the mail bags at the Cologne, Germany, airport. This example was prepared by stamp dealer Hermann Sieger and autographed by officers Max Pruss and Albert Sammt.
