All of the stamps on this cover were invalid by the time it was mailed in August of 1939. The 1936 Olympics and Buildings semi-postals were only valid until June 30, 1937. The 1937 Winter Relief charity stamps featuring ships were only valid until June 30, 1939. The postal clerk who cancelled them at Rhein-Main missed the issue, allowing the cover to pass as if it had been fully franked.
