Notes
On the weekend of July 16, 1939, the LZ 130 visited an air show at Gorlitz, delivering mail there in a two-minute landing before approaching weather forced an early departure. During the flight, the ship repeatedly traversed the German-Polish border. This was not an innocent accident. On board the airship were Dr. Bruning from the Aviation Ministry in Berlin, together with radio technicians and sophisticated monitoring equipment. This was not the first time the LZ 130 was used for military purposes, nor would it be the last. Mail was marked with a flight cachet in various shades of red, featuring a view of the River Neisse and the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. The landing cancel was a simple city date stamp with the legend "Landungsfahrt LZ 130".
